CRS Pulse Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 13, 2026
App: CRS Pulse – Express Entry Calculator
Contact: contact@crspulse.com
Summary
CRS Pulse is a free, local-first mobile app supported by banner ads (served by Google AdMob). There are no in-app purchases and no subscriptions. Your CRS profile data stays on your device, and we do not operate user accounts. The only personal data we send to our own servers is an anonymous push token, and only if you enable draw alerts. The app also sends anonymous usage analytics (which screens and features are used) to PostHog, which you can turn off in Settings. We never collect your CRS profile or immigration data off-device. The website, crspulse.com, may show ads served by Google AdSense.
Data stored on your device
The app stores locally (via AsyncStorage):
- CRS calculator inputs (age, education, language scores, work experience)
- Calculated CRS score and program category
- Theme and notification preferences
- Cached IRCC draw history
- Immigration timeline milestones (if you use the timeline feature)
This data is not transmitted to our servers.
iOS App Store privacy labels
When completing Apple's App Privacy questionnaire:
- CRS calculator inputs and timeline data are stored on device only and are not collected.
- Usage Data → Product Interaction: anonymous screen views and taps (PostHog), used for analytics, not linked to identity, not used for tracking.
- Location → Coarse Location: approximate location derived from the IP address (PostHog), used for analytics, not linked to identity, not used for tracking.
- Identifiers → Device ID: a random analytics ID generated by the app (PostHog), not linked to identity. Also an anonymous push notification token (only if you enable draw alerts), and a device advertising identifier used by Google AdMob for advertising and measurement, only with your App Tracking Transparency consent.
Data sent to third parties
IRCC (Government of Canada)
Draw history is fetched directly from the official public JSON feed at canada.ca. No personal data is sent — only a standard HTTP request.
Push notifications (optional)
If you enable draw notifications, the app registers an anonymous Expo push token with our Cloudflare Worker so we can alert you when IRCC publishes a new draw. No CRS profile data is included — only the device token and platform (iOS/Android).
You can disable notifications and revoke your token at any time in Settings.
App updates (Expo)
From version 1.0.14, the app checks Expo's update service (u.expo.dev) when it starts, so we can deliver fixes without waiting for a store release. The request includes the app version, platform and a random ID for the installation that Expo uses to count devices. It never includes your calculator inputs, CRS score, timeline or any other profile data. Like any internet request, it reveals your device's IP address to Expo.
PostHog (usage analytics, optional)
The app sends anonymous usage events to PostHog so we can see which features are used and whether people come back. Each event carries a random ID generated on first launch, the screen name, the name of the tapped component (never its text), app version, device model, OS, locale and time zone. It never includes your calculator inputs, CRS score, timeline, checklist or any other profile data, and it is not linked to your identity. There is no session recording.
Like any internet request, sending these events reveals your device's IP address to PostHog. PostHog currently stores that IP address with each event and uses it to estimate an approximate location (country, region and city — not your precise location). We use this only to see which countries and regions the app is used in. We do not use it to identify you or combine it with any other data, and we do not share it with anyone. Newer versions of the app send these events through t.crspulse.com, an address on our domain that is operated by PostHog; the data still goes to PostHog and is handled the same way.
Analytics is disabled in development builds.
Website (crspulse.com)
The website uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. For each visit it records the page, the referring site, your country, browser, operating system and device type. Vercel does not store your IP address or build a profile of you, and visits cannot be linked across days or across websites. The website also sends page views, time on page and clicks to PostHog, through t.crspulse.com. Click events record which link or button was clicked, never the text on the page, so calculator results are not included. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device: PostHog recognises a returning visitor only within the same day, from a one-way hash it computes on its servers. As with the app, PostHog stores the IP address and an approximate location (country, region and city) with each event. There is no session recording.
The calculators on the website run entirely in your browser; nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
The analytics above set no cookies. Ads on the website (below) are the exception.
Google AdSense (website ads)
The website may show ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads and measure them, which can include ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve those ads. Ad requests never include anything you type into the calculators.
You can turn off personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings, or opt out of many third-party vendors at aboutads.info. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for consent through Google's consent message before ads are personalised. How Google uses information from sites that use its services explains this in more detail.
Google AdMob (ads)
The app shows banner ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers and ad-interaction data to serve and measure ads, as described in Google's privacy policy. On iOS, the app first asks for App Tracking Transparency permission; if you decline, ads are still shown but are not personalised using your device identifier.
What we do not collect
- No user accounts or login
- No in-app purchases or payment information
- No third-party analytics or trackers other than the anonymous PostHog usage analytics and the AdMob ads SDK in the app, and on the website cookieless page-view analytics (Vercel and PostHog) and Google AdSense ads, all described above
- No session recordings
- No sale of personal data
- No immigration profile data on our servers
Data retention
Local data persists until you uninstall the app or use Reset in Settings. Push tokens are removed when you disable notifications or revoke via the worker API. Anonymous analytics events, including the IP address and approximate location stored with them, are retained by PostHog under its standard retention. We do not retain any other off-device data.
Children's privacy
CRS Pulse is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy. The effective date above will change when we do. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
